On Trend: Nesting Tables

You probably noticed the most recent craze in interior design … nesting tables. Essentially a group of side tables paired or grouped together, in either similar or dissimilar sizes, shapes and colours to be used as a coffee table, side table or bedside table. More often than not, these on-trend pieces are used as extended and layered coffee tables, creating multiple platforms for your magazines, vases, candlesticks etc. They’ve been around for awhile, but it’s only just been recently that they’ve been hitting up on all interior design and lifestyle blogs, and now you can find them in most retail stores, from Freedom to Coco Republic. The newer styles are generally quite lightweight, making them the perfect accompaniment to any room. They’re extremely versatile pieces and can be moved around to suit a number of purposes.

The beautiful thing about nesting tables is that they’re perfect for smaller homes. They’re pieces that do double the duty, or that can be moved out of the way and hidden quickly and easily. Nesting tables in a set of three are a great option and look great as a coffee table trio. As seen above, nesting tables in the same tone work brilliantly in contemporary apartments with a monochrome colour palette.

Nesting tables work perfectly during mealtime viewing. Their different heights are well suited for taller or shorter family members, and they can easily moved aside when the dishes are cleared. Opt for nesting tables in either wooden or multi-coloured finishes for something a little more casual and informal to give a relaxed vibe. This style is best suited for more retro and vintage style homes.

If you have quite a minimalistic and streamlined approach to styling your home, maybe give the ever-so-popular Hay tray side tables a go (seen above). Their design is super simple, with a box style bottom and a tray top which can be removed to act as a nifty little tea or coffee tray. Chuck it back on the base to transform it back into a coffee or side table.
