Long week-end in Melbourne!

By on 20-01-2012 in Architecture, Interior Design, Obsessed With, Taste This, Went Here

I am struggling to get through my work-day when all thoughts are on the mini-break week-end ahead!

Once again I received some tickets to the centre-court semi-finals match on Monday night, and decided to make the most of it!

I am a frequent visitor to Melbourne and as such have had many opportunities to explore foodie fav’s, and I always love going down to explore the latest offerings! Even better this week-end is 4 days of holiday time, normally my Melbourne trips are work related with limited free time, so can’t wait for 4 days of everything Melbourne, food, drink, sport & some summer heat!

I thought I would share a little of what I am up to over the week-end, some are old fave’s, others are new, I will provide a follow up post next week!

The Blackman Hotel Melbourne

We’re staying at the Blackman, the latest from the Art Series hotels.  We have stayed here once before, and love the location, across the road from the Botanical Gardens and close to the city.  The rooms we have stayed in previously have been close to the size of my apartment- fingers crossed we can score the same room again.  I am a fan of the Art Series hotels as all the rooms come with a dining table, sofa and kitchenette, meaning you can make yourself breakfast or have a glass of wine in the evening.  The hotels are new, and modern and feature the works of various artists, and the staff are always exceptionally helpful.  I can also recommend the Cullen, over in Prahran.

Movida

I am most excited about returning to Movida, for me it is an essential stop when I have spare time in Melbourne and when I am catching up with friends or family.  I adore Spanish food, and this has to be the best on offer in either Sydney or Melbourne! I would be keen to try the offshoots, Movida next door or Movida Aqui, but never want to miss out on the original!

Another absolute fave, and I can’t believe I’m sharing it! A Melbourner’s secret, it hides one block behind the tourist trap that is Lygon St, we were first introduced to it by a foodie friend in Melbourne, and return there every trip, work or leisure.  Simple, Italian pizza is what they do, and its incredible, just make sure you order a few big balls of Mozzarella.

This one was found & booked by our friends who are joining us on the week-end, can’t wait to try it, it looks incredible! Will report back next week!

And finally not on the agenda, but I will hopefully have a chance to stop by and check them out:

After seeing this bakery in loads of design blogs and journals, I am keen to see whether the bread lives up to the incredible fit-out! I have a feeling I won’t be disappointed!

I came across this one last week, I seem to not have an meals left that I can book this place for (it’s closed on week-ends), though based on that food shot, I am dead keen to try it!

Oh and amongst the food there will of course be some tennis! It should be me playing with all the eating, but I suppose watching others exercise will have to do!

Look out for the post-Melbourne update next week!
