Blending Old & New

This home in Melbourne features a stunning modern renovation to its original Edwardian design.  The renovation has successfully blended the new modern areas with the older architectural elements.

The original facade, with the stacked stone fence indicating there is something a little special about this home.

The kitchen area feels spacious and open thanks to the pitched ceiling, the built in cabinetry cleverly provides plenty of storage space, with the honey tone making it appear as if it is a natural extension of the polished timber in the hallway, providing a strong visual connection between the original & the new extension. The honed concrete floor and chunky marble benchtops make this space a  modern zone, with an emphasis on horizontal planes and overlaps and surfaces overlapping.

The open plan living & dining, with the plain white walls and concrete floor, the timber that runs throughout provides the warmth and the link to the original part of the house.

The hallway that leads down to the extension, revealing the original period details of the home.  Love that surprising green door!
